Okay, here’s a project I’m pretty proud of. I just fell in love with the idea of adding a bar cart to my apartment when I saw this post on ABeautifulMess a while back. I looked into getting the cute little cart from Ikea, like this one. But with a really tight budget, I just couldn’t justify spending the money on it.
Meet my new friend, Freecycle.org. It’s a website where people can post things they want to give away, or post looking for things they need. A great way to give old things a new life and a new home. My first day on there I found GOLD! Someone posted this picture of a trashy metal cart in need of some serious TLC.
I cleaned it up and killed ALL the spiders on it. SO many spiders. I HATE SPIDERS. Seriously, I think I’m most proud of myself for surviving the spider infestation than anything else. YUK! I took it all apart, being careful to keep all the screws together with their counterparts, and spray painted it orange for a nice, happy pop of color! The wheels were easy enough to replace as well. My local hardware store sold them for about 2 bucks each.
All told, I spent about $15 on this project, but it looks like a million bucks! I find it far more rewarding spending a weekend on cool projects like this, versus a quick trip to a store. Plus, it’s one of a kind! Speaking of… I just want to point out that this cart has an extension cord mounted on one of the legs. Whoever thought of that is a genius and they have captured my heart. I am in love! Absolutely perfect for plugging in my marquee lights!
